The Housing and Construction Ministry has difficulty meeting the construction needs of the Arab sector. A study by Sikkuy that has come into the hands of Calcalist maintains that the state marketed lands for high-density construction, but the citizens claim that they are not accompanied by suitable infrastructure. The director general of the ministry in response: "We have to build at high density - in the minorities sector as well"

...“There’s a clear gap between the behaviour of elected officials towards Israeli Arabs and what the citizens of Israel actually want, which is to reform and normalize relations,” said Gerlitz. “Our citizens want more equality. Closing the gap between Jews and Arabs is not just the moral thing to do – it’s essential for our well-being.”
Haider, of Palestinian origin, said he wants to contribute and be part the State of Israel. “I believe in the right of Israel to exist – I obey the law, pay taxes and want a shared future where both Jews and Arabs are safe. I want the government to respect my civil, cultural and religious rights,” he said. “So we need an open and honest dialogue.”

With all the attention last week on the drama playing out around the Palestinian bid for recognition of a state at the UN, it was inevitable that the announcement of the results of a survey on relations between Jewish and Arab citizens within Israel would be drowned out.
Yet the responses to questions posed by Sikkuy: The Association for the Advancement of Civic Equality in Israel, and released last week at its annual conference, not only addressed an internal problem no less threatening to the state’s future than the Israel-Palestinian conflict, but also provided a rare opportunity for optimism...

The leaders of a civil society organization working for equality for the Palestinian citizens of Israel spoke on Tuesday before the Trachtenberg committee – the government-appointed panel charged with recommending steps to improve economic and social justice in Israel.
The committee’s invitation to Ron Gerlitz and Dr. Mary Totry of Sikkuy, the Association for Civil Advancement in Israel, might be partly a response to claims that the committee does not sufficiently represent Arabs in Israel.
